One way to make healthier food choices is to swap processed foods for real foods. Real foods are typically fresh and are generally found in the outer aisles of the grocery store. Real foods are closer to what you would find in nature than processed foods. Think fresh fruits versus processed "fruit snacks" or even fruit juices. Think about about a meal made from scratch rather than a frozen entree or something that requires you to "just add water!" Processed foods typically contain preservatives and additives that real foods do not.
Of course there are times when processed foods are convenient and easy when we're on the run or on the go. The idea is to establish a more balanced lifestyle that's still realistic within our hectic lives, where we limit our processed food intake and choose real food over processed whenever we have the opportunity.
With that in mind for the Real Food Challenge, over the next week your goal is to substitute one meal or snack each day that is normally processed with one meal or snack consisting of real food, as follows:
1. Take a photo of your "real food" meal/snack along with a photo of the processed meal/snack you would normally eat.
2. Combine your food photos into "before and after" combinations!
2. As a team, determine the five best "real food" substitutions photos
3. Combine the best photos into one and upload them to your dashboard
$150 in Amazon Gift Cards goes to the team that has the best real food substitutions. You have until Tuesday, February 10th at 11:59 PM EDT. to submit your entries. Our panel of judges will determine the winners based on best use of substitutions and real foods, creativity and presentation.
