Half Fast Five Takes Home the $10,000 Prize!

Keep in mind that challenges are great tools and a lot of fun, but it takes work to lose weight. Individual results vary.

Transportation giant CSX teamed up with HealthyWage this March for some team work, some fun and of course, some weight loss! We had an incredible turn-out, and the competition was strong. In the end, we had two teams max out their team average weight loss at 16.59%, but only one team could be named Champion! Check out the stories of the top three CSX teams below!

Team Toledo Docks – 3rd Place/$3,000 Winners!

Percent Weight Lost: 16%
Total Pounds Lost: 205 pounds

This competitive team of co-workers definitely had the weight to lose, but say it was the chance at big money that motivated them to get together and lose the weight they had been needing to lose. Will H. says he pulled together some coworkers he knew would be committed and competitive to the very end. The teammates worked together in the same office, and met together daily to review accomplishments from the day before, and set goals for the day ahead. Nothing was going to stop this crew from holding up their end of the deal, and the team accountability factor kept everyone going strong!

After dropping an incredible 205 pounds (that’s an average of over 40lbs each!), all of the guys were not only looking better, but feeling better too! All five were on medications of some sort (blood pressure, diabetes, etc) and all have been able to come off their medications completely! Wow!

As for moving forward, the team is still looking out for one another – they weigh in daily together at the office and take walks before or after work as their schedules allow. As for the cash, well it’s already slated for vacations and new wardrobes!

Congrats Team Toledo Docks!!

Team Die Lard – 2nd Place/$5,000 Winners!

Percent Weight Lost: 16.59%
Total Pounds Lost: 203

The start of the CSX $10,000 Team Challenge just happen to coincide with the opening of an on-site gym at the work site of team Die Lard. It could not have been better timing, as this team of friends and coworkers (two from different work sites) had been feeling badly about their weight for some time. When the challenge was advertised, they knew that this is what they’d been waiting for and decided they all had the weight to lose, so they were all going for the max weight loss allowed – 16.59%.

In it to win it from the very start, this team was committed to helping one another stay on track! Lots of motivation between texts and seeing each other in person helped them through any set backs or slip ups that they may have experienced. Jeff M. says, “having a team definitely helps, having other people to hold you accountable makes it a lot harder to give up.” He also noted that putting your goals “out there” for other people is key to success, whether it’s weight loss or any other goals you’re trying to accomplish (Editors note: We so agree! Social support and positive peer pressure go a long way! That’s part of the reason we created the Team Challenge!).

The team is feeling great after their 203 pound total weight loss. For team captain Jeff M., activities as small as getting in and out of the car and tying his shoes are dramatically different than they were just 12 weeks ago. The team has no plans for stopping, whether their goal is to maintain or continue to lose, no one wants to fall back into old habits and they plan to help one another make sure that does not happen!

Congratulations team Die Lard!!

Team Half Fast Five – 1st Place/$10,000 Winners!

Percent Weight Lost: 16.59%
Total Pounds Lost: 255
Team Half Fast Five CSX

Checking out that before and after photo, there’s no denying that this team of five lost a combined total of over 250 pounds! These co-workers from West Virginia had competed together in a different weight loss challenge before, but most had gained some of their weight back. So when the opportunity to do it again (along with a huge pay-out, they decided to give it another shot.

Their strategy was sound, “We discussed early on in the challenge to make it all about weight loss. We decided if we focused on losing weight and pushed hard to do so, then we would definitely finish with a prize. Even if that prize was simply being healthier.”

The team also knew that weight loss alone may not be enough, so from the very start they also focused setting individual weekly goals for themselves which would allow each team member to receive all possible ribbons by the conclusion of the challenge. Jacob G. said, “We all used this for motivation, because no one wanted to be “the one” who didn’t hit these goals. And of course the chance for $10,000 is a pretty good motivator in itself!”

Like the others, this team is feeling great and they want to hang on to those healthier habits they picked up. They plan to continue to support one another in losing weight, getting healthier, or at least maintaining their current losses. Jacob G. sums it up pretty well, “I am sure I speak for the entire team in saying the most enjoyable part of this challenge is the end result. The challenge was enjoyable. We have had a good time working has a team and seeing each others gains, or maybe we should call them losses. But none of that compares to how much better I feel or how much more active I have become.”

Congratulations, Team Half Fast Five!!
