Q&A with Team Captain Bubba T.
What motivated you to get a team together and sign up?
A few of us were did the $10,00 Team Challenge a few years ago and didn’t win. Whereas there was the benefit of losing weight, our main focus was being #1. When we set out to do this year’s Team Challenge, we had a team meeting and all decided that if we were going to do it, we were going to hold ourselves accountable and win. It was about pride; we didn’t want to lose again.
Who was on your team (coworkers, friends, family, some other group, a mix?)
Originally, all 5 of us worked at the same location; however, after the challenge started, another team member and I were promoted and moved to a different location. With that said, we refused to let the distance hinder our team’s outcome and success. We were all committed to staying strong and winning the challenge.
What motivated you to keep going/stay on track?
Primarily the results. It’s a huge self-motivator when you do the weekly weigh-ins and the mini challenges. It gives you a chance to get together with your team every few weeks (especially since we were in different locations). Our team took it as an opportunity to connect and see how everyone was doing.
Were your intentions more weight-loss focused or win-money focused?
Money and being #1 in the challenge was the main motivator for our team. Of course, losing weight and getting healthy was a benefit, but you can’t beat winning $10,000.
How did your team communicate most often?
Mostly group texts and phone calls. If a teammate didn’t respond to a text, they would get a call. All of us were good about making sure everyone was engaged. What really helped us stay connected was HealthyWage’s mobile app. Since we’re always on our phones for work, it just made sense to use the app. Plus, it was easy and convenient! Not only could we chat via the message boards, but we were also able to submit our weekly and verified weigh-ins through the app.
Did your team do any “internal” contests or prizes (of your own design) to help team members stay engaged/competitive and on track?
We all kept a close eye on each other. If a teammate wasn’t reaching their goal, we’d ask “do I need to call your wife?” When you get a group of guys together, especially in the environment we work in, you get a lot of poking humor at each other. But, it was all in good fun and supportive. If a man was down, we were there to help him get back up.
What did you enjoy most about the challenge?
The results. For me personally, I see it as a lifestyle investment. I worked so hard to get where I am, that the last thing I want to do is ruin all the work I did. It’s great now. We all now look healthy and aren’t as tired. This challenge proved that no matter where you are across the globe, you can collaborate as a team and WIN!
and win big bucks as you lose weight!
