Team Operation: Waist Management had a few requirements to join their team. You had to be male, really large, and had a proven history of losing weight in a short time. This group all worked in the operating room of a hospital and already knew what hard work was like and they knew that it would be hard work to lose weight, but they were determined.
A colleague at work helped with support by sending out regular team updates, diet instruction tips, and lunchtime exercise and stretching classes. Their strategy was simple, really: “Put the fork down and exercise really hard.” The team kept a flowchart and tracked progress with weekly weigh-ins. They even worked out together as much as they could after deciding to all join a local YMCA together. There, they had fierce racquetball games and cardio while one member even added Insanity workouts on top of that.
There were challenges for the team, including one member who had to go out temporarily on medical leave but who came back for the last two months to do double duty. Another member lost a very close family member during the competition but kept going too.
In total, the five members lost 167 pounds, which has made a big difference in enjoying a healthier, more active, and energetic lifestyle - not to mention their clothes now all fit better. The real challenge will be to keep it off and make sure they stay healthy, but they are all confident that the three months gave them the time to change their habits. There has been no thought of fast food and any foods that might be questionable no longer taste the same. Their bodies and minds are now focused on being healthy and staying that way.
